Wondering About Your Hospital’s Quality? Ask a Nurse

Wondering About Your Hospital’s Quality? Ask a Nurse.

A study of 16,000 RNs from 400 hospitals done by Matthew McHugh and colleagues at Penn Nursing shows that the RNs’ perceptions of quality closely reflected patient outcomes and patient satisfaction.  Because nurses are able to see a variety of organizational process and culture issues that affect care quality, we at Hansten Healthcare PLLC always ask nurses and assistive personnel how they would rate their satisfaction with quality of care they feel they are able to deliver.  In our experience, the nurses’ reflections accurately correlate with nurse sensitive indicators and client outcomes.  It is gratifying to see this study (to be published in Research in Nursing and Health) supports our field experience.  Want to know about quality? Ask a nurse!
